To the wife and family of SGT Ford:
I know months have passed, but not a day goes by that I don't pray for you and your family. My husband was at TQ with SGT Ford, and had only great things to say about him.
Please know that many people you don't even know are thinking of you and praying for you...and that God is always with you.
with love,
Holli Jaques

The loss is never easey especially of a child. Please know that you are in our prayers. We that have sons and daughters in Iraq all can not know the pain you are feeling. But know that the ones of us who met your son will not forget him. My son met him at Ft. Knox. My son wanted you to know he touch everyone who met him. He was kind to everyone. He helped anyone who ask.

Our family wishes to express our deepest sympathy to yours.
Serving 17 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard as a Cavalry Sergeant, I personally value his commitment to our Armed Forces. I was also a fellow citizen of Nova Roma with Gaius.
May God, Jesus Christ, Iuppiter Optimus Maximus, and Pater Mars bless and watch over the family of Joseph Andrew Ford, aka Gaius Popillius
Strabo, and guide them through this very trying time.
Respectfully Submitted,
SGT James Hatcher

The finest of gentleman who will be sorely missed by his worldwide online friends at Nova Roma.
Joseph was known to us as Gaius Popillius Strabo and touched so many of us in a good and positive way. There are simply so few words at a time like this for all of us who have lost someone who has touched our lives. We have been blessed to have shared some time with him in some way. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family in this time of such sad loss. May you all have peace and comfort.

The Roman and Hellenic communities grief at your loss. May Mars be praised for Strabo's service to the Republic. Many warm wishes to his family, but rest assured he lives on, his physical nature to be remembered by those who loved him his soul to live again in the next life. Do not forget the coins upon his eyes.
-Lucius Vaccarius Maximus
P.S. I'd recommend Plato's Phaedro if you have not already read it. It is a great dialogue to read at the passing of a loved one.

Dearest Karen,
It was with deep sorrow that I received word of the passing of your husband Joseph. We knew him as Gaius Popillius Strabo. As the Senior Consul of Nova Roma, may I extend the condolences of all our members to you and to Joseph's family.
With your permission, I wish to conduct Roman Ritual for Gaius Popillius when fellow Consul T. Sabinus and I meet next week in Thermae Hercule, Romania with fellow Citizens of Nova Roma for our annual Conventus.
Please extend my deepest sympathies to Joseph's mother and father. Only just recently my youngest son returned from Iraq. I am all too familiar with the anguish they must now feel.
I pray that Matter Terra, who shall now receive Joseph, noble and dutiful in life, may She lie lightly on him, who in life weighed heavily on no one. May Mater Venus now receive his soul onto the Blessed Isles where he shall be born again, a child of Venus, to play in the fields of Elyssium. May he be ever honored among the Lares.
Di Deaeque, Karen, semper ament.

His family and I thank you for all the wonderful things you have said about Joe. Most of you only knew him threw the army, but he always was happy go lucky and full of useless information regarding history, it is a terrible loss that no one knew him like I did. There will always be an emptiness in me that can never be replaced. He was more than a good soldier, he was a beautiful person and wonderful husband.

I did not have the privilege of personally knowing Joseph, but given the opportunity, I'm sure I would have liked him. He touched my life only from a distance but his loss weighs heavy on my heart.
Joseph gave his all for strangers like me. It's those like Joseph who unselfishly stand ready to defend our country and our beliefs that truly make a difference in our lives. Because of them we are able to have so much.
Joseph will be missed but never forgotten.
May the memories of times shared with Joseph comfort you during this difficult time.
God Bless,
Robin

I served with SGT Ford in New Albany and Ft. Knox. He was a pleasure to work with and always motivated and proud to be an Infantryman. He had only been with us here at C Troop for a short time and will be sorely missed. It was truly an honor to work with him and I am sorry for your loss.
