Scott -
I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. I just today learned about his death. It will help to remember him everyday, it will bring a smile to your face and a warm feeling in your heart.

While I did not see Fred very often once I left Indiana, I will always remember him as a man of quiet dignity and strong character; characteristics always in short supply. Our sincere condolences go out to the entire Powell and Branch families.

Powell family,
I am very sorry for your loss. As far as I know of Fred he was a very honorable and godly man. He was a great dad from what my mom has said of him and I know you feel blessed to have had him in your life. At the same time that I pray for you in this sad time, I will also be thanking God for the awesome time you had with him:)
A poem read at my granpa McFerren's funeral:
Only a Dad
by: Donald McFerren
Only a dad with a tired face
Coming home from the daily race;
Bringing little of gold and fame
To show how well he has played the game;
But glad in his heart that his own rejoice
To see him come and to hear his voice.
Only a dad with kids galore
One or ten million men or more;
Plodding along in the daily strife
Bearing the whips and scorns of life;
With never a whimper of pain and hate
For the sake of those who at home await.
Only a dad neither rich nor proud
Merely one of the ever-surging crowd;
Toiling, striving from day to day
Facing whatever may come his way;
Silent whenever the harsh condemn
Bearing it all for the sake of them.
Only a dad but he gives his all
To smooth the way for his children small;
Doing with courage, stern and grim
The deeds that his father did for him;
There are the lines for him I pen
Only a dad, but the BEST of men!

Dear Scott & Family:
Have been thinking of you and asking if anyone had heard from you this week. It is hard to lose a loved one, and very painful.
Am sending lots of love and thoughts to you and yours. We will all be glad to see you back home again.

Scott and family, my prayers are with you during time of sorrow. I know there is no words to help with the sorrow you are feeling but as you remember the fun times and good memories you will slowly smile, even laugh,and that is what your love one would want you to do.
Again you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time.

Scott and family,
I only had the chance to meet Fred once, but I believe that first impression of bright eyes and an friendly smile revealed a lot about a good man and his family.
I know there are few words that can really slow the sorrow and tears that flow so easily this week, but I hope the thoughts and prayers from each of us can comfort you through this difficult moment in time.
Thoughts and prayers with each of you,

Scott & Family,
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to each and every one of you. I know that these are just words and won't bring you comfort right away, but maybe once everything is over with you will find some comfort in this.
When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me:
I wish you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too:
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand.
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said, "This is eternity.
And all I've promised you.
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times
You did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?"
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
